Wow! I was just composing my reply to your message like this: "The answer is accepted, so maybe you can just edit out the link", when I took a look at the OP's profile[^]. In his profile, he has a link to that same website as in the answer! Obviously this was a setup question.

Yes, I know. I was looking at his Article and Tips and although they have links to that site, it is not that bad. He does however have quite a few messages posted with the same link included. I am not sure what to do here. I have not reported him.

Same with me. We should let the Hamsters decide the verdict.

He has a lot of other things on this site, so what do you think we should do? Have Chris or Sean talk to him, or just bring down the ban hammer.
His article is very popular (and, with just a quick scan of it, I can see why!)

I am not going to report him for this (I think it is different than if it was yet another commercial barcode library), but I will support doing something about the many messages posted with links to their site.

I'm confused on this one. The link in the answer from this OP would clearly be marked as spam, but because the OP has existed since 2005, I'm curious if this is a CodeProject supporter who pays for advertising and whether it is OK for them to be posting the commercial links in Q&A answers and such.
Can anyone shed some light on this one, or is it simply a spam account that has managed to survive for a lengthy period of time?

AFAIR, he is an old chap who keeps posting links to a paid product inspite of repeated warnings.
I would call him as a spammer who stayed and survived here for long time.

Personally I don't think it is spam as it offered as a potential solution to the question.

I'd say definitely not spam. There doesn't seem to be any link between this user and the vendor, and they have been active on the boards for a long time.

Oh dear. This seems to be overzealous.
If the solution to a problem is genuinely available through third party software, we shouldn't really be punishing the poster for it.

They had - the account is gone. Methinks people have been a little overzealous here, and we should bring the account back.

I'm not so sure now - I've just done a search on this user, just looking for his answers, and they all seem to link back to Crypto.... products.

Ah.
And I see Sean has had a good look.
I couldn't check his other messages as his account was gone.

I've removed a number of the users posts. 10 posts in a single day linking to his product (regardless of how relevant the topic might be) is a no-no.
I vaguely recall speaking to this individual before about these postings, and I will do so again before I reconsider activating the account.
