In a job posting that went live today, Microsoft made a reference to Windows as a Service, but other than the name, not much else is known about the platform. Microsoft's OneCore also gets referenced as well, but we are not sure if the WaaS and OneCore are related in the capacity in which they are mentioned in this job description. Put your OS in the cloud, and hope it doesn't rain

Microsoft is aiming to make available a technology preview of Windows Threshold around late September or early October. We are on the threshold of... Threshold

After several complaints from users, the company has acknowledged issues in the August Update, and is now advising users to uninstall some of the modules from the computer. Additionally, Microsoft is currently investigating it and, for the time being, has pulled the download links. "Oops, I did it again."

You probably didn’t use it, and may not have even heard of it, but the now 20-year-old IBM Simon was the world’s first smartphone, on which you could write, draw, manage your contacts and calendar, and send faxes – it even had apps.
...and about the same battery life

Visual Studio Online is experiencing its second major outage in less than a month, with no current timetable for a fix. "Oh no, it's raining again"

This happens when you try to "Put a square peg in a round hole" Microsoft might have thought like it provided Microsoft Word Online, it can also provide Microsoft Visual Studio Online.
But Visual Studio is a powerfull tool. It can't run in a Web Browser. Well unless you chop 80% of the requirements and dependencies of the software.

Agreed, and with people living in VS, it's a bigger blip when it does (and it will) go down.

Yes, because it is a software designed for development purpose. It is not an Angry Birds game to work with browsers and run on 80MB Ram, the software requires a lot of memory and has many background threads that keep on running all the time.
Online version can never ever match the Offline version. Offline version is a killer, Online version, ummm no words!

Have a look at the image below, http://s6.postimg.org/ldsktdzfl/Screenshot_194.png[^] how can Microsoft imagine to run a software program that takes twice as much memory as the web browser itself and then run it smoothly.
I don't really understand this!

I'm usually sitting with 3+ VS 2010 open and 1-2 WinDbg. The desktop machine crawls on one single thing.
Hint: try !sym noisy and see how long the PDB resolving takes.
VS *in* browser? I thought VS online is a some kind of remote desktop thing.
If it's in browser, then I won't use it.

Last time I checked the VS online was rather azure version of TFS and not the IDE running in browser.
However reading the comments above I think the name can be somewhat misleading

That's what I thought too, but I was too lazy to confirm.
However (and as you point out): that really does show just how poorly they've explained (i.e. 'marketed') the product, if the first assumption of most people is that it's Visual Studio ... in the CLOUD, rather than TFS ... in the CLOUD. Perhaps they were worried what people would end up writing it TSFO.
