I have a web page with Integrated Windows Authentication turned on. An isapi extension dll traps the domain and user name used. I notice that when a remote user is logged on locally to their machine using an account and password that also exists on the webserver machine, the domain comes across as the name of the webserver machine. I would expect authentication to fail and the browser to popup a logon dialog. Is there maybe a configuration option I have missed ? Help please.

We are working on a refresh logic in Lotus Notes that will automatically refresh a page when it is viewed in IE (because internet option settings must remain on refresh automatically and this was causing problems). The refresh logic workes fine with read and edit modes, but when we try to save a document it gives us this IE5.0 error: "The page cannot be refreshed without resending the information. Click Retry to send the information again or click Cancel to return to the page that you were trying to view."
Easy enough to click Retry, but we do NOT want our users getting this error all the time. Is there a way to either remove the error or have it automatically retry? Please help!!!
Thank you.

I was recently asked by a friend to help out with designing and creating a web site for someone. The problem is I have no idea what the going rate is. Can someone give me a clue please?
The site is ASP and SQL Server, probably about 6-8 pages, nothing I haven't done before, just not for my own pay.

This is a lucrative process and usually bargained between the programmer and the client.
It seems the going rate is whatever you and your client believe is reasonable. Some people charge by the hour, some charge by the page. This is entirely up to you. I don't know what companies usually start out their web developers for pay, but if you researched this and incorporated that into your rate, you'll probably come close to some reasonable rates. you may also want to browse around for companies that charge to do web pages and analyize their rates (by the page or by the hour)
"Why are we hiding from the police, Daddy?"
"We use VI, son. They use Emacs."

I had the same dilemma. When I looked around at how much professional companies charged, the lowest amount I found for a "starter site" (~6-10 pages) was $2500.00 USD. The prices rose exponentially from there, depending on the features added. Since I don't consider myself a "professional" web developer, I bid below the minimum figure, but it was still a nice check to receive! Also, I do pretty good work (IMHO ), so I feel the client was getting a pretty good deal.

When I designed and implemented webpages a couple of years ago now, I used to charge a flat rate of £120 an hour (about $190 or so). That seemed to be acceptable for a group of designers back then. Of course though, I was the only designer . Nowadays I beleive the going rate is a little higher. The best way to find out is to phone/email a couple of companies and ask them what they charge per hour/page, and base your price off that.

Hi,
At the top of my ASP I have this code:
<%@ Language=VBScript %>
<%
if instr(lcase(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_REFERER")), _
"login.asp") = 0 and _
instr(lcase(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_REFERER")), _
"signinagain.asp") = 0 then
Response.Write "Please register or login first."
' Send the user back to the login ASP
Response.Redirect "signinagain.asp"
end if
%>
which will control the access to the ASP page and view the contents.
But I get this error message knowing that I am not posting any information in the header or the URL!
Please register or login first.
Response object error 'ASP 0156 : 80004005'
Header Error
/twcb/bizform.asp, line 13
The HTTP headers are already written to the client browser.
Any HTTP header modifications must be made before writing page content.
Any help is much appreciated!
Cheers!

This error usually occurs when you have not set the buffer to true. At the beginning of the page, just say response.buffer = true

Hmmm... something is quite strange here.
<br />
str = String(str).split(defaultDateSep)<br />
will actually return a javascript error (only in Netscape) stating that [object Object] is not a constructor.
This code actually performs a few times correctly before it crashes. This one's leaving me puzzled. Anyone have any clue what might be happening with this?
Thanks!

Try splitting the code out into multiple lines. This way if/when it crashes you will have a better idea of what the problem is.

Which version of netscape are you having problems in? I tried your code in NN 4.7 and 6.1 and it worked fine. If you are doing it in NN 3, it does not support the split method.
Here is a more robust way of coding this though.
var sTemp = new String(str);
var sStrings = sTemp.split(defaultDateSep);
Hope this helps.

thanks for the help. It turns out it was linked to someone using the following line earlier in the program
<br />
var Array = arrayTemp;<br />
oh well...
the frustration of having to maintain someone elses code.
"Why are we hiding from the police, Daddy?"
"We use VI, son. They use Emacs."

How do you delete a element from an array and then shift the remaining elements to fill the gap?
|
|
|
|
|
To acheive the effect of actually deleting and shrinking the array simply just shift the remaining elements first then use slice(int begin, int end) to grab the all the elements but the last one.
function Pop(SomeArray, Element)
{
//push elements up from Element to SomeArray.length
return SomeArray.slice(0, SomeArray.length-1);
}

Hello. I was wondering if anybody knows of a javascript tab menu that looks like excel tabs on the bottom of the program.(i.e. "Sheet1" "Sheet2")

You might be able to create one by developing a behavior. Unfortunately the page would be Internet explorer only. There is always an applet but if you're trying for an full client-side version you might have to settle for box tabs and develop them using style sheets and some DHTML. (play around with the border and span/div stuff.
For more information on behaviors check out the microsoft MSDN site
Behaviors
For style sheets, try searching for Cascading Style Sheets.

Because I tried at geocities and some other sites, I couldn't even download a ".dtd" file. Please help!!

How can I open a new window at the top left corner of the screen in IE using javascript?
I know by giving screenX=0,screenY=0 would open the new window at the top left corner in Netscape, but this doesn't for IE.
