Some type of medical visualization software? Would be a large project that would require a large number of people.

SubVersion is not at "one point oh" yet. I wouldn't recommend using it for anything serious just yet..

You are aware that the Subversion developers themselves are using it to version control the Subversion project?
It's looking pretty good and they're in beta phase now

Yep!

Using a SC system which is in beta phase is not good QA though. Believe me, I've lost code in an unstable SC system before, and it's not a fun thingTM

And another thing; how good are the tools for SubVersion? For WinCVS there are a couple of really good tools. Standalone applications as well as VC/VS-addins.

Unfortunately, CVS is probably the only option... since it is free.

SubVersion is free. We use it at SharpDevelop.

You work over at SharpDevelop? Cool. Good idea with the IDE, needs more work of course but pretty impressive nonetheless.

I'm not in the core team, but I'm in the top 15. I've submitted a few fixes, but my main job is answering forum posts. Now that I've joined the contributor's list, I'm going to help out alot more with the coding. My current project is porting the Project Scout to SWT and fixing some dragging/moving bugs in it.

No, it's not the only option, but it's the best.

I have VSS, but I was just looking out for the unfortunate souls out there. Besides, we would have to do Remote Source Control, so plain VSS is out of the running anyway.

Not to be a "Negative Nancy" but VSS is just about the worse development tool I have ever used esp. when it comes to significantly sized projects.
It is fine for a small projects but just dose not scale well. Don't belive me? Look as MS, they moved their development teams away from it long ago.
It would be a shame and waste of time to have to migrate a VSS repisitory to something like CVS or any of the better SCMs well into a project.
Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that?

I have a license for VSS but I still use CVS because of several reasons. CVS is way more widely used. CVS can be used in a remote environment. CVS is free.

Let me know what you need in terms of infrastructure. While we can't, in the short term, offer a SourceForg type environment I am more than happy to try and shoehorn whatever we currently have into whatever form is needed. Maybe there is a only a tiny change you need made for one of our systems to work a little better.
