Several magazines such as Software Development do annual salary surveys. I think SD's 2002 one is available on-line if you register for a free account on the site. I see they are taking input for the 2003 on on the front page already.

There should be additonal on-line sources as well.

another good source for this type of information is ComputerJobs.com - you can generally get Salary information for your area on this site (assuming you're in the U.S.).

Hi
The world of certification to me seems a bit overwhelming considering the number of companies out there whom offer gauranteed passes while been expensive.
I havent the faintest idea who to go to the find out the step involved in getting a certification for .NET or SQL (preferably) without having to pay through my nose for the privelage.
Can anyone please suggest to me a reputable company in the UK (London?) which I'll be able to do self-study and then write the exams somewhere.

Hi John
I am also looking for the same thing. No luck so far. Another option is to do the course via the books. Has anyone done this and can you suggest which are good.
Many Thanks

I just started today playing with the Serebra Win2K certification courses I picked up cheap ($9.99). I'm impressed! CBT has come a long way since I worked my way through the WinNT series. Each unit starts with an assessment of current skills, then the software constructs a custom course for the student's weak spots. The course is then presented as a mix of verbal instructions and actual click-and-see steps which emulate the behavior of Win2K as it walks you through performing all the steps in a particular objective. At the end of the unit review questions are asked to reinforce what has been presented. I haven't finished the first course yet, but I assume that at the end there is a sample test to approximate the real thing. What a pleasure!

You might want to ask this question in the Web Development or ASP.NET forums.

Hello All,
I have started preparation for the MCAD Certification.
Are there benefits for this cert? or does one get by with loads of experince and expertise. I have experience with Classic ASP and also ASP.NET (C# Flavor).
My methods of prep are:
SQL DESIGN Transcneder
C# WEB APPS Transcender
XML APP Transcender
I guess my questions is, are there any others that have had any experiences good or not so good?
Thanks
Tony

I've heard good things about the transcenders but I've never used one other than a demo. They give you a good idea about what to expect.
I passed all the exams as part of normal study plus experience. Just go over all the requirements to make sure you haven't left anything out.

You can always brush up and study the books and use Transcendar but for 70-100 or 70-300 I found experience was the key.

70-300 was tough for me. I had never failed a Microsoft exam but I failed the first time I took it. Some of the questions were very tricky or at least I thought so. I didn't have any problems the 2nd time though. I had different case studys and they were easier. I thought 70-100 was the toughest test I took for the old MCSD too.

This may seem a really stupid question, but as I dont know the answer, I have to find ask it. From all the exam centres I have seen, they make out as if you have to study the whole thing with them to be able to study the exam. also, which cert is better, MCSD or MCAD? How long would it take to complete this? And, if anyone is in the UK, do you know of testing centres where you can just pay to write the exam?
|
|
|
|
|
You have to be MCAD before you can be MCSD.NET. The requirements for MCAD are the same for MCSD.NET with the addition of 2 more tests for MCSD.NET. Most people I know attempt MCAD(3 tests) then finish up the last 2 tests for MCSD (5 tests). Got to Prometric [Prometric] or http://www.vue.com/[Vue] to find a testing center near you. Taking a class is not a prerequisite for taking a test.
You can still attempt the Visual Studio 6 MCSD too. It is only 4 tests but with .NET fewer and fewer people seem to be interested.
I'm not sure if anything I've said helps. Let me know if you have more questions.

Beyond that I can't remember much. It's been a while since I took 320. I had the most trouble with 320 and 300. Good luck and sorry I wasn't able to help more.
