Well, I solved this problem a while ago, but thanks for the input though.
I may post the code later on when I'm finished with the project, don't have time to do that now (for all the code-cleaning and stuff).
Thanx!

Hi.
How to obtain desktop icon's positions and labels?

I've just had the comment "If Word2000 can display the new style file open dialogs in Win98 why can't you?". Well I'm not Microsoft! Anyone got any ideas though?
|
|
|
|
|
Just do what MS did, rewrite the dialog from scratch so it looks like the Win 2K version.
|
|
|
|
|
I started writing a some code that emulated the open dialog on Windows 2000, I subclassed the common dialog to do this.
Basically I ended up with some cludgy code that almost worked.
There seem to be issues with the syncronisation with dropdown bitmap combo the list control.
Eventually I had abandon the project with probably 90% success.
I now develop on Windows 2000 and my projects don't have to be compatible with NT, 98 etc.
I can send you a demo for suggestions if you email me.

I just remembered that the book "Visual C++ Windows Shell Programming" has an example that adds a location bar to the standard 9x/NT 4 file open dialog. It's in chapter 14. You might give that a look and see if it can help you out.

Hi, I contacted Norm Almond for the code, and updated it a bit, I never experienmced the probelms he is describing, so with his permission it has now been submitted to the CodeProject archives. The topic is currently in UserItems, but should appear in the "Dialog and Windows Programming" section, titled "Win 2k style File Dialogs for Win 95/98/NT/Me".
It is an attempt to copy the Office 2000 style dialogs, and I have tested it pretty thouroughly and found no major problems.
The sample project has also been updated.

I would love to see someone write a simple HTML View class, that does not need IE, just uses GDI.
It would be so nice, I have a cross platform application using WindU, and need a HTML window, currently using netscape in a external window which look nasty.
Please someone go on create a HTML View control, and supply the source DLL's are no good on UNIX.

I need to find out how I can load a textfile into a static or text control for viewing only.
Help me anyone
|
|
|
|
|
(I'm assuming C)
Simply read all the text file in a buffer (ending with '\0') and call SetWindowText().
<br />
TCHAR buffer[1000];
DWORD read = 0;<br />
ReadFile(hFile, buffer, 1000, &read, NULL);<br />
buffer[read] = '\0';<br />
SetWindowText(hWnd, buffer);<br />
Where hFile is a handle to an open file and hWnd is the handle to a static or edit control.
Hope this helps,
Paolo.

Hello,
Say I have an application that sends e-mail, and I want the user to pick the recipients of their message using the Address Book that comes with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
Any sample programs, classes, whatnot that you know of?

Hi.
I'm trying to develop an application like Window Washer. But I want to insert a caracteristic on my application that Win Washer doesn't hve:
I want to monitor the keyboard when the user where using IE. If the user uses ctrl+D the current url will go to favorites but if the user uses ctr+M, for instance, the url will be put in the favorites and on a place determined by my program. When the user ask my program to clean the favorites all will be erased but urls saved with ctrl+M will be put again in the favorite folders.
I want implement this feature because sometimes we would like to preserve only some urls and it is not possible with Win Washer.
I haven't any idea how to do it. Any information will help me a lot.
Thanks.
PS: I don't want to use MFC. I'm using MingW32, based on gcc-2.95

I am trying to learn OLE DB and ATL. I am looking for a simple implementation of an ATL OLE DB provider based on using the ATL wizard to generate the provider starter code. I can't figure out what to strip out from the generic file-based datasource code the wizard creates to make it see an ACCESS database.
thanks,
bobby
