You can create the install script for the SQL bit with this Database Build Tool[^]
For installing MSDE there is a merge module on the SQL Server install disk (IIRC)

Hi. I am kind of a beginner in VB6 and Ihave a little problem. I want to make a programme in VB6 that measures the temperature of a chemical reactor (something like a boiler) and stores those values to an excel file. I am using a PCL841 (h**p://www.advantech.com). Can anyone give me a hand on how to get started?

First, get the drivers, then get the documentation for the drivers. It looks like all the examples are in C++, so that means you'll be spending some time translating some of the examples to work in VB.

I have an winforms application that lets a user click on a listbox which holds a list of images.
When the user clicks on a list item the corresponding image is loaded into the picturebox using the picturebox.image.fromfile(CStr(lstBox.SelectedItem)) syntax.
The user is able to click a delete button which should delete the currently viewable picturebox image.
Before doing the delete I am calling the following methods:
picturebox.Image.Dispose()
picturebox.Image = Nothing
picturebox.Image.fromFile("temp.gif")
so that the image i want to delete is freed from system resources.
I keep getting the following error
"The process cannot access the file "image.jpg" because it is being used by another process"
I have tried numerous things to get round this error. My code does not load any images anywhere else apart from the picturebox.
Please can anyone help!

I'm planning to use a text box to accept a currency value. I would also want to supply a mask for the same. How can I do it using .Net Supplier text box control. Or there are any other controls? I've checked in Infragistics also but they are not flexible
Can anybody respond to my query? Thanks in advance

Try This :
Enter a number in the text box. when u leave the text box the number wil be formatted with the $ sign.
Private Sub txtAmtPaid_Leave(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtAmtPaid.Leave
Try
decAmtPaid = CDec(txtAmtPaid.Text)
txtAmtPaid.Text = Format(CDec(txtAmtPaid.Text), "$ ###,###,##0.00")
Catch
messagebox.show("Please enter a number")
txtAmtPaid.Select()
txtAmtPaid.SelectAll()
End Try
End Sub

Use the Windows Media API. DirectX9 has C# ( and I assume VB.NET ) support, but it's full of bugs.

... I have compiled a VB.NET class project into a DLL. Then I registered it to GAC. I want to use it in a new .NET application. Trying to add a reference but can't find it in "Add reference" under .NET tab. Why?
Well I know I can browse for my .DLL ... but I want to share this .DLL between 2 applications so I registered it at GAC. Am I doing this share-thing the wrong way?
Please give me some help here ...

We really can't tell you that unless you describe how you wrote your class and how you put your assembly in the GAC.

Hi,
I want to develop a application in VB. That will import data from MS-Access table to SQL server table. We have many ways to do same things
• SQL Server Data Transformation Services (DTS)
• SQL Server linked servers
• SQL Server distributed queries
• ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) and the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL server
• ADO and the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Jet 4.0
or if u know some other way. I want to do build the application in more professional way.
So i want smart suggetion from any one.
Thanks

If you know the format of the tables, there's nothing magical about it. All you do is read the Access table, do any translation that you need to, and write it to the SQL table. The connection technology you use for either one is up to you. In VB.NET, all this stuff is supplied in the .NET BCL.

I want to convert a scanned image(.BMP file) to text.Is it possible.

Nothing is impossible!
But there are some very difficult things also!
What you want, although I say that it is not impossible but I suggest you to forget about it.
You can start analyzing the picture pixel by pixel and check for information about the characters.
(This is the only way that I can think of)
But this is too complex and difficult that it is better to leave it!
