Nish's answer is sufficient but I thought I might be permitted to elaborate a bit. (also if you want to push your CSS knowledge then this stuff is important)
It is all done using CSS and Selectors (W3C link). Selectors are so, so important to CSS. And you are using them even if you don't know it. p.michaelsheading{font-size: xx-large} is using a class selector. (applied by writing <p class="michaelsheading">Michael and CSS</p> )
Another selector is p#michaelsheading{font-size: xx-large} and that is basically an ID selector. (applied by writing <p id="michaelsheading">Michael and CSS</p> )
Then you get what Nish showed you were :Hover , :Link etc. are another form of selector.
The nice thing, and the point of this post, is that you can combine them. So if you want two links on your page but with different styles you can go a.menu:hover{color: #ff9900} for the one link and a.content:hover{color: #99ff00} for the other link.
CSS is so cool

No problems at all, thanks for showing enough interest to help so much.
To be truthful I haven't been playing with anything technical much for the past couple of weeks. Grunt work, stress and interview/job hunting makes it hard to get motivated. I am trying to snap out of this, but I am living with in-laws and the only place (and I mean only) to put my computer is on the dining room table. This makes it hard to concentrate.
Anyway on to my question. I am currently using a single entry for each HTML type (is this the correct terminology?) h1, h2, p etc. like the following.
p { font-size:10pt; }
I am not interested in using class and ID selectors at the moment (though I have a rudimentary knowledge of them), as I am reducing my HTML file size to the absolute minimum and I don't need them yet.
What I want to know is, can I add Hover, Link etc into the body (??) of say p {} or do I have to add a seperate p.Hover {}, p.Link{} etc.?
Also is there a help file for CSS and HTML I can download to use offline? I found one once but they were circa 1999 vintage which I thought a bit old.
Should get notification on that job with the video conferencee interview tomorrow, 2 days later than they originally said. Hoping to get this so I can get back to having a life.

When I try to update my databae using the update on the datagrid the original values, not the modified ones are passed. Any ideas? Thanks.(No, the function in its current state does not function)
public void UpdateGrid(object sender, DataGridCommandEventArgs e)
{
UpdateVendor.Connection = Global.sqlConnection;
UpdateVendor.Parameters[0].Value = dgVendors.DataKeys[(int)e.Item.ItemIndex];
TextBox Contact = (TextBox)e.Item.Cells[3].Controls[0];
TextBox Address = (TextBox)e.Item.Cells[4].Controls[0];
TextBox Phone = (TextBox)e.Item.Cells[5].Controls[0];
TextBox Fax = (TextBox)e.Item.Cells[6].Controls[0];
UpdateVendor.ExecuteNonQuery();
dgVendors.EditItemIndex = -1;
dgVendors.DataBind();
}

I'm assuming TextBox Contact, etc. contain the updated values and UpdateVendor is your SqlCommand. Where are you assigning the contact, address, phone and fax to SqlCommand parameters?
|
|
|
|
|
here is the exact code.
public void UpdateGrid(object sender, DataGridCommandEventArgs e)
{
UpdateVendor.Connection = Global.sqlConnection;
UpdateVendor.Parameters[0].Value = dgVendors.DataKeys[(int).Item.ItemIndex];
TextBox Contact = (TextBox)e.Item.Cells[3].Controls[0];
TextBox Address = (TextBox)e.Item.Cells[4].Controls[0];
TextBox Phone = (TextBox)e.Item.Cells[5].Controls[0];
TextBox Fax = (TextBox)e.Item.Cells[6].Controls[0];
UpdateVendor.Parameters[1].Value = Contact.Text;
UpdateVendor.Parameters[2].Value = Address.Text;
UpdateVendor.Parameters[3].Value = Phone.Text;
UpdateVendor.Parameters[4].Value = Fax.Text;
UpdateVendor.ExecuteNonQuery();
dgVendors.EditItemIndex = -1;
dgVendors.DataBind();
}

I've done some ASP a while back and was wondering what is, in a nutshell, new with ASP .NET? Big difference or just some small design upgrades?
|
|
|
|
|
big, huge, massive.
asp.net is leaps ahead of not only asp, but every other web framework i've ever seen.
they've wrapped a very innovative webforms framework around the stateless web. It's amazing stuff.

Can anyone give some insight into this exception? I have had several pages that worked just fine then I get this exception, afterward I always get the exception even if IIS is restarted or the asp.net worker process is killed.

I have an aspx page that looks fine of course in IE but when viewed with Netcrape it's like the page margins are always on.
I created a test page with a single image placed at 0,0. Made sure the top and left margins of the page were set to 0. In Netcrape the image is drawn, it looks like, at 10,10, an empty space surrounds the image. If a have a background image set it originates at 0,0. Because the image needs to be aligned with elements in the background it looks like crap.

Netscape doesn't use topmargin and leftmargin like IE. So, to have it render properly in both try this...
<body ... topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">

I would not suggest doing that. People will stop visiting your site if you do that without asking.

For IE5+, you can use the home-page behaviour:
<html xmlns:ie>
<head>
<style>
@media all {
ie\:homePage {behavior:url(#default#homepage)}
}
</style>
<script language='javascript' type='text/javascript'>
<--
function fnVerify(){
sQueryHome = oHomePage.isHomePage(oHomeHref.value);
alert(sQueryHome);
event.returnValue = false;
}
function fnGo(){
oHomePage.navigateHomePage();
event.returnValue=false;
}
function fnSet(){
oHomePage.setHomePage(oHomeHref.value);
event.returnValue = false;
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<ie:homePage id='oHomePage' />
<input type='text' id='oHomeHref' value='http://www.codeproject.com' />
<input type='button' value='Verify' onclick='fnVerify();'>
<input type='button' value='Set' onclick="fnSet();'>
<input type='button' value='Navigate' onclick="fnGo();'>
</body>
</html>
[IE will still ask the user if they want to change their home page.]
