Have you specified on your program which interface you want to use?

Hi,
I'm trying to use a link like
[a href="\\server\mailarchive\mymail.eml"]mymail[/a]
to open a mail saved as .eml in Outlook Express.
double-clicking the .eml file in Windows explorer does as it should (start OE, and open the .eml for viewing, the command line is msimn.exe /eml:%1)
Using a link in a web page (as given above) displays the mail body directly in IE (however, I can't access attachments etc.)
Where/how can I change this, to open the file directly in OE?
TIA
Peter

Do you have ZoneAlarm, or any other PC Firewall running?
eml was the extension that nimda used to propogate (spelling?) itself a few months back. So, alot of firewalls, or antivirus software blocks execution of that extension.
Hope that helps.

No, nothing of that. IE seems to recognze them as "can be displayed in-place", like it does/can do with Office documents, or Acrobat .PDF's. (Acrobat reader has an option to turn this off, so I hope I can find the same for OE)

I wrote some software and tested it on about 5 different PCs, all with different hardware configurations and varying Windows operating systems. After correcting a few bugs and taking care of platform independent problems, I thought the software was ready to roll. So, I wrapped it up and got it out there. However, now that it is available, I'm finding that it doesn't run correctly on MOST of the PCs that people are trying to run it on. What is the deal? How can I guarantee that my software will work??? I used a Microsoft compiler on a Microsoft Operating System using only Microsoft libraries. My software is the buggiest piece of !@#*@$. Doesn't it make sense that if it works 100% on one PC, that it should do the same on any other? Please crawl into a corner and die, Microsoft. Anybody have any advice for me??? How do I test my program in a way that I can be sure that it will work on the majority of other peoples' computers???

Link statically.
Test it on fresh-installs.
Use VMWare for testing.

Don't write buggy code?
I have no problem at all creating software for 98/Me/NT4/W2K/XP. We dropped 95 for some API reasons.
Chances are you are depending on versions of DLLs that you shouldn't. Many times this is COMCTL32 (which is well documented so you only have yourself to blame.) Are you depending on SHLWAPI? Also not available on all versions of the operating systems and also well documented.
You depending on them having IE6 installed?
MDAC?
MFC?
CRTL?

I'm sure you can only install on a server, for example W2K Server.

You can install MSDE instead of SQL Server on your client machine. MSDE is the desktop version of SQL Server and is rather nice for developing applications targetted at SQL Server.

Hi CP,
This one's a little embarassing I enabled the "Auto-logon" feature on my Win2k box about 4 months ago (after re-installing the OS). I thought it'd be a great idea to do this 'cuz it'll be ready to go after I boot. Now I would like to use PSTools to do some remote administration from work, BUT I forgot the password. Does anyone know of any password recovery tools that I can use.
TIA

Hi,
As far as I know, password is stored in clear text on registry. Have you tried using TweakUI utility ?
Can't remember the exact location of the key that holds password. It is something along HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Logon

Venet.

Thanks Venet.
TweakUI does show the asterisks and lets me know how many characters it is. I downloaded a utilty that will reveal what the asterisks are in a text box, but not the TweakUI one. The Copy right-click is disabled as well, so i can't do a cut and paste. Grrrrrrrrr...
Any other ideas???

Hi Mark,
Well try another thing.
I just looked at my computer and found this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
There should be some values there like
DefaultUserName and DefaultPassword
See if you can get those and let me know

Venet.

Thanks again. Unfortunately, it's still a "no-go". I found the DefaultUserName key, but no DefaultPassword.
Any more ideas In the mean time, I'll try and find some more utilities.

Well if registry fails then you can try creating another username and add it to Administrator group. Then delete the old Administrator.
I'm runing of ideas now.

Try this utility. I just tested and worked fine:

Thanks. Sorry this is such a delayed response. I created a new user with Admin priviledges. I can do everything from that account now, but I can't delete the old one. Oh well, c'est la vie.
Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Hi there,
You still have access to your computer (when you're sitting) at it, don't you?
Then why don't you just reset the password (Control Panel | Users and Password) and use the new one for remote control.
BTW, it's probably wise to disable autologon especially because since you do remote admin, you'll probably have your computer always connected.
gr,
Gertjan

Hey Gertjan,
Yeah. What I did was create another user with Admin privies. I tried to delete the old one, but wouldn't let me. I've disabled Auto-logon so this wouldn't happen again.
Anyways, thanks...

Hello,
I have a problem sending Email using outlook express From a client computer
which is connected through Microsofot Internet connection sharing.
My network is configured as such:
Server is running Win2k Pro and is connected to an ADSL modem.
Client computer is running WinXP pro.
10Mbps ethernet.
I have tried changing MTU size and configuring the cards to work both with
Half and full duplex modes.
Connecting the clinet directly to the ADSL modem results in no problems
sending email.
I would be gratefull if anyone that knows anything about this problem would
reply.
Thanx.

Could you post the error message? What IPs are you using for your internal network? Is your SMTP server located outside network? etc. etc.
