Rocky Moore26-Jul-02 17:13 Rocky Moore 26-Jul-02 17:13  Okay, I have multple computers running XP connected to a server machine running Windows 2000 Adv Server with two lan cards, one for the local net and another for the broadband internet connection with Internet Connection Sharing enabled on the broadband connection. Now, I can run a simple e-mail program that will send mail out via SMTP to the server targetted in the e-mail message "To" field. This works fine on any of the machines on the local lan and the message goes anywhere on the Internet I wish to send it. When I run this same program on the server machine (that has just had the OS freshly installed) I keep getting an error message: ERR An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host That happens regardless of where it is sent. When the same program is ran on any of the local net machines, it sends the message any where on the Internet without a problem. Any clues why it would work on the local machines but the server would choke and kick back that error? The message are still being sent through that machine by the local machines over the ICS? So, alot of firewalls, or antivirus software blocks execution of that extension. Hope that helps. IE seems to recognze them as "can be displayed in-place", like it does/can do with Office documents, or Acrobat .PDF's. After correcting a few bugs and taking care of platform independent problems, I thought the software was ready to roll. So, I wrapped it up and got it out there. However, now that it is available, I'm finding that it doesn't run correctly on MOST of the PCs that people are trying to run it on. What is the deal? How can I guarantee that my software will work??? I used a Microsoft compiler on a Microsoft Operating System using only Microsoft libraries. My software is the buggiest piece of !@#*@$. Doesn't it make sense that if it works 100% on one PC, that it should do the same on any other? Please crawl into a corner and die, Microsoft. Anybody have any advice for me??? How do I test my program in a way that I can be sure that it will work on the majority of other peoples' computers??? Can't remember the exact location of the key that holds password. I downloaded a utilty that will reveal what the asterisks are in a text box, but not the TweakUI one. The Copy right-click is disabled as well, so i can't do a cut and paste. Grrrrrrrrr... Then why don't you just reset the password (Control Panel | Users and Password) and use the new one for remote control. BTW, it's probably wise to disable autologon especially because since you do remote admin, you'll probably have your computer always connected. gr, Gertjan
