I am playing around Lumisoft Mail Server and let me start by just saying THANK YOU. It is robust, scalable, feature rich products like this that fuel the open source movement... kudos to you for sharing the wealth...
My question is in relation to messages being stored as an image type in sql server... I am trying to write several stored procedures to parse and take actions based on the content of the mail message contained in the SQL server database currently stored as an image datatype.
Understanding that this product was designed to be datastore agnostic and that it is probably out of the scope of this discussion to ask "How in SQL?" - but I am really just curious if anyone has any ideas.
I would like to extract the image data and convert it to a text field... I suppose that I could cast it as a varchar(8000) and get the first 8000 characters, but I was really hoping to have a representation of the entire text to parse... Does anyone know a way (simple or otherwise) to do this conversion directly from T-SQL... I could always read it out through an app or something and do my conversions there, but I was hoping to keep it all on T-SQL... Oh how I with cast(image as text) would work... but no go...
Thanks for the help and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards,
Hal

0.84 - pobably will be out durning some weeks, depends on when planned features will be completed.
Planned:
*) DNSBL spam filtering. Currently works, but no UI yet.
!*) If dns server not available, don't consider message as undelivered. (Not sure if implement)
*) Send user note if mailbox size exceeded
Other verison - can't say.
These version will be mainly just bug fixes, no bigger features planned to 1.0.

What is your licensing policy for this source code? Can a person use this source code any way that he or she wants? I would like to use bits and pieces.
Thanks!
Hi,
Licensing is under discussion.
It will be BSD or similar.
Has the licensing been finalized????
No, if 1.0 out then will be finalized.
Currently you can do what you want and this stays for current code.
so, this includes redistribute this code ?
yes, there never be redistribution limits or fees.

Hi,
Asynchronous Socket version of mailserver is available now.
If somebody interested, see:

(See mailserver -> Devel -> async)

Do you have plans to allow messages to be stored in SQL database tables instead of text files? This would simplify cases where I have to move an e-mail domain from one server/ip to another. It would also simplify mail backup, restore and management.
Thanks for the consideration,
Steven

Looks good so far. The attraction of your implementation is your IMAP support and my first action was to get Outlook to access the Server as an E-mail client. However the process fails. The error log says that the service failed while looking for "...\MailStore\MailBoxes\Bill\...". In fact the folder created is ...\MailStoreMailBoxes\Bill\...". That is, it looks like there is a folder separator missing when the folder is created on the server. If I correct the mailbox folder everything is OK. Howerer if I then add another folder, the same problem occurs and a folder called MailStoreMailBoxes is created.

Hi,
What is Mail store root in GUI manager ?
Will it end with / ? (eg. c:\mailstore\ or is it c:\mailstore)
I'm almost sure that you don't have / at end, add it and let me know result.
I'll fix this by adding automatically / in GUI is isn't at end.

Thanks, that was the solution. I chose not to use the default folder offered and had not ended the path with a "\".
Changing topic, I'm looking for a mail server I can use at home. I'm keen that my kids are able to send and receive e-mail but I'd like to see what they are sending and, more importantly, who they are receiving mail from. Our firewall restricts access to web-based e-mail services like Hotmail and while it sounds a bit like "Big Brother", I think it's better to be safe than sorry. When they are old enough they'll find a way to send e-mail privately anyway.
So I'm keen to learn whether the filtering mechanism in the mail server could be used to implement the functionality I want. For example, can I intercept mail inbound to, or outbound from, a specific address and have a copy of it sent to another person (me or my wife)?
Finally, have you given any consideration to the support of non-mail folders under IMAP to support Outlook folder types such as Calendars, Tasks, etc. or to act as a public folder store? Are you aware of any documentation covering the functions the server needs to support to be able to store Outlook information. Of course I could setup Exchange but it is so difficult to install and maintain!
