If you search CP, there are a number of ASM articles. Just not enough to justify (or so it would seem) their own category. You can change that; I would be interested in an article or two on ASM.

I have been wondering, why doesn't CodeProject have a Java or J# forum? What about all those Java programmers out there, I think if CP added a forum for them, they would get a lot more site traffic.
And another idea, how about an Easter Egg forum? A place people can submit Easter Eggs that they have found. It's not any different than the Subtle Bugs forum. Right?
Well, that's just something that I would like to see on CP.

There is a java forum. It's hidden and only gets a handful of posts per month. It's hidden because CP is an MS centric site and java's a hostile technology. There are at most 2 J# programms in the world (1 is the MS J# compiler test author), so there's no point to a J# forum because it would go totally unused.

What's the point of a Java forum then if it's hidden?

The forum got removed years ago because of lack of use. It isn't accessible by any of the menus, but if you know the forumid then you can still get to it. I don't think of it as hidden, but just waiting in the recycle bin.

Well, it's not like the Collaboration / Testing forum gets swarmed with usage. It only has like 10 posts. That forum should be removed if you ask me!

I would note is has over 2 orders of magnitude more posts that what you suggest.

A little feature request.
Maybe it'll be good to have a Article Tracker - a distinct RSS feed (or an e-mail notification system) for every distinct article? So readers won't have to dive into the lengthy "new & updated articles" list on mondays, but instantly know when their favourite article gets updated...
Best regards,
Dmitry.

What I'm proposing is a traker for a -distinct- article. For example, any can have a "Track this article" button, so, when article changes, the people who pressed it receive an e-mail "Article that you are tracking was updated".
By the way - this is a nice "voting" thing: article can have a meter "N people are tracking this article"...

It has certainly been asked for in the past. One of the problems was the volume of emails that would have to be sent, this would put even more strain on the CP servers.
I certainly think it would be a good enhancement, it would probably work better as an article RSS feed - or as a compromise, maybe an author RSS feed that would give an update when an author changed one of their articles.

They've obviously dedicated some serious time into the forums, the *least* they deserve is a red shirt
Actually I think gray hair would be a more accurate reflection... but some might take offense.
Anyway take your pick - this is roughly what they would look like: http://www.ixnay2infinity.com/misc/cp_user.gif[^]

Sorry, you lost me there
Could be any other colour to be honest (how about CP-orange)
I guess it doesn't make any real difference, but it conveys some extra info about the poster. And when I suggested it in the lounge, one of the 'fixture' guys said it might be cool.

Since it appears that somewhere our votes are stored I think it would be cool if CPhog or even CP in general didn't average the votes but instead showed something like:
Score: 5.0 (1 vote), 4.0 (3 votes), 3.0 (1 vote) = 4.1 Avg
Or something like that. I'd put this in the suggestion forum but then if Chris didn't want to do it Josh wouldn't see it. I'll put it here and if Chris doesn't see it Josh might and might make it happen.
Why do I even want this feature? Just because it would be interesting to see the distribution of votes.

This has been suggested before. I do not know if it is on the TODO list or if it has been rejected, but I certainly second this suggestion, especially for articles if not for the forums.

Yeah, I can see how that could be useful. But since everyone has their own mind of what exactly deserves a 5, or 4, or 1, I don't think it really tells you that much. (And it takes up a lot more space).
Some have suggested abolishing the voting on posts, which I think is a bad idea. Not that I think votes are *that* important, but it's definitely cool to get feedback. The way I see it, if you get a high score, people really appreciated the post. If you get a low score, who cares - they were either drive-by votes, or someone doesn't have a sense of humour, or didn't have the guts to disagree with words instead. But if you get a LOT of 1 votes, just try and think about why, and if you can't see any reason don't lose any sleep over it.

It has occurred to me that there should be some means of users to cancel out 1.0 votes. Rarely do we have a problem with too many 5 votes but we seem to get 1.0 votes from morons.
My suggestion is that on a post where a 1.0 is likely to be the only vote cast because there's nothing wrong with the post that if users drop five 5 votes the 1.0 goes away and so do the five 5.0 votes. Admittedly you lost the 5.0 votes but at least you killed the drive by 1.0 vote and the five people voting 5's might have done it to kill the 1.0 in which case they are happy to see there 5 go away as well. This would return the post to a zero state. Of course if other users have voted more 1.0's or something other than a 5.0 or a 1.0 perhaps you still kill the 1.0 if five 5.0's are received and maybe you just leave it alone at that point...
If the regulars new of this it would be a good way to kill drive by 1.0's. The only reason I suggest five 5.0 votes is because if you make it to small a number it's tempting for trolls to create accounts to delete 1.0 votes.
